Once the flats are laid i begin to work on adding contrast.
I try to focus on one piece of the image at a time such as the helmet moving down the body breaking things down in to sections. By doing this i am focusing on one element rather than trying to shade the drawing in its entirety.
Using alcohol based markers i apply layers which gives subtle gradients. And adding shading and details with coloured pencils.
I go back and fourth, usually working from darks to lights. I found my based colour on the armour originally was far to pale, so i ended up recolouring the armour which made things a lot easier and quicker to get the results i wanted.
